LG AI Research heads to the US to recruit global AI talent!
2023.10.16LG AI Research has expanded its reach to recruit global AI talent. We held our “LG AI Tech Connect” in New York City and spent a week visiting top universities in North America, where we hosted “Career Days” and met with local AI talent. Let's have a look at how we've been connecting with global talent and expanding LG AI Research's vision.
LG AI Tech Connect, LG AI Research’s first global recruitment event
On October 13 (local time), LG AI Tech Connect was held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. LG AI Tech Connect is LG AI Research's global recruitment event to secure top AI talent. This year, we invited 25 master's and doctoral researchers from top global universities. We were able to meet talent from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard, Cornell, Columbia, New York University, and the University of Pennsylvania all in one place.
From LG AI Research, Honglak Lee and Jungkyu Choi were on the scene to introduce key research topics and LG’s large-scale multimodal AI, EXAONE 2.0, and have discussions with participants.
The LG AI Research Talent Relations Team, which organized the event, spoke with attendees about research and careers and conducted recruitment consultations, and in particular, provided information on the open positions in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and South Korea, emphasizing that there were opportunities to choose where to work depending on the field of research.
Attendees also had the opportunity to briefly introduce their research through spotlight presentations, followed by deeper discussions during the dinner networking session. Students in attendance freely asked questions and gained insights into LG AI Research’s research achievements, careers, and EXAONE 2.0.
A Columbia University doctoral student attending the event explained that while most corporate recruitment events involve listening to lectures, it was a refreshing change that LG AI Tech Connect provided a place where a small number of people who were highly relevant to the research field could gather and interact actively. Another attendee, a postdoctoral fellow and assistant professor at New York University, mentioned that it was beneficial to learn that LG is making a lot of efforts to create business outcomes with AI in various areas, and expressed hope that the LG AI Tech Connect event would continue to be held.
In addition to LG AI Tech Connect, LG AI Research held a week-long Career Days event from October 11 to 16 (local time) where we visited several universities in North America. Starting with the University of Michigan, where LG AI Research is conducting industry-academia joint research, we visited Carnegie Mellon University and the Georgia Institute of Technology to introduce our global AI center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and provide 1:1 customized recruitment consultation.
Recruitment campaign to research “Expert AI” in Korea underway
We’re also looking for AI talent to work with LG AI Research on “expert AI” in South Korea. To secure AI development talent to solve various challenges in actual industrial settings, we’re conducting online and offline campaigns, at the same time, targeting master’s and doctoral students from research and development-focused universities.
Since its establishment in 2020, LG AI Research has been working to secure technologies and capabilities in the field of AI. We’re making meaningful changes centered on AI, including unveiling our large-scale multimodal AI EXAONE 2.0 and strengthening collaboration with LG affiliates and global partners. Going forward, LG AI Research will continue to develop “Expert AI” for every expert in the world. We look forward to welcoming domestic and international AI talents to join LG AI Research.
Earlier, in late August, Koo Kwang-mo LG Corporation(LG Corp.) Chairman and CEO visited North America to review the status and development strategies for AI and bio fields, emphasizing that “AI will ignite innovation in all industries in the future, and depending on how we prepare for it, it will have a significant impact on the business landscape as a future game-changer”.
