In order to reveal the remarkable results that LG AI Research has achieved in the first half of this year, the “LG AI Talk Concert,” an annual event where LG AI Research shares its achievements for the year, will be held a little earlier. The large-scale multimodal AI “EXAONE 2.0” from LG is the star of the show.
 
Since EXAONE was first introduced in December 2021, LG AI Research has been working to enhance it so that LG affiliates and domestic and foreign partners can use specialized AI tailored to each field more quickly and conveniently. What performance and differentiation does the completed EXAONE 2.0 have? 
 
Introducing LG’s Large-scale Multimodal AI, EXAONE 2.0, an Evolutionary Step Forward from EXAONE
 
The EXAONE 2.0 unveiled at the LG AI Talk Concert 2023 has been significantly enhanced in terms of learning data quality, ratio efficiency, and customized model compared to the existing model. Considering that a large part of the existing language data is in English, it was developed as a bilingual model that can understand and respond in both Korean and English and trained with approximately 45 million professional documents, such as patent papers and 350 million images secured through partnerships.
 
At the same time, efforts were made on new technologies to lighten and optimize in order to solve the high-cost issue, which is a weakness of large-scale AI. As a result, the performance greatly improved over the existing model, allowing it to save processing time and cost.
 
In other words, EXAONE 2.0 is designed to be customized to meet customer needs. Customers can select the model size and type (language, vision, multimodal) and the language used according to the purpose or budget. Other various advantages of EXAONE 2.0 were revealed at the LG AI Talk Concert 2023.
 
Exploring the Potential of EXAONE Through LG’s AI Contact Center (AICC)
 
To get a detailed look at how EXAONE 2.0 can be utilized, we will first introduce the case of the AI Contact Center (AICC) applied to LG Electronics in the first half of this year at the LG AI Talk Concert 2023. AICC is an AI customer service that applies EXAONE, analyzes and summarizes customer interactions in real-time, and proposes appropriate responses or content to the conversation.
 
The Three Major EXAONE Platforms: The Foundation for Expert AI Service Development
 
The highlight of the LG AI Talk Concert 2023 is the unveiling of the three advanced platforms based on the EXAONE 2.0 model for the first time. Along with the previously mentioned AICC, you can meet AI technologies that will change the industry, academia, and our lives.
 
First, “EXAONE Universe,” an expert conversational AI, learns from expert-level documents and the latest professional data in each domain to generate inference-based answers. We have focused on enhancing expertise and reliability to create a platform that experts in each field can trust, explore, and combine information.
 
“EXAONE Discovery” is a generative AI that predicts various experimental processes and suggests the optimal method. With the world’s best deep document understanding (DDU) technology, it can understand and learn not just text but also non-text information such as molecular structure, formulas, charts, tables, and images. Through EXAONE Discovery, it is expected to reduce the number of trials and errors in synthesis from over 10,000 to tens and shorten the research and development time from 40 months to 5 months.
 
The multimodal AI “EXAONE Atelier” expands infinite creativity through the connection of images and language, and it learns from 350 million copyright-secured image-text pair data to provide specialized features in image creation and understanding.
 
At the LG AI Talk Concert 2023, we demonstrated the functions of EXAONE Universe, Discovery, and Atelier and share the vision of “Expert AI” that EXAONE 2.0 will open.
