LG Hausys Making Spurt to Capture North America Automobile Market
2016.06.03LG Hausys completed the construction of Autoskin US Plant and now prepares to target the North American automotive market. Automotive skins are surface materials used for car seats, door panels and dashboards. In regards to completion of Autoskin Plant, Mr. Oh Jang-Soo, the President of LG Hausys, Mr. John Meadows, State Representative of Gordon County, Mr. Mike Grundmann, the director of advanced manufacturing at Georgia Department of Economic Development, Mr. Sung-Jin Kim, the consul general at Atlanta, and 100 other distinguished guests attended the opening ceremony which took place in Gordon County, Georgia on April 19th, 2016.
Since the groundbreaking ceremony of the Autoskin US Plant in July 2014, LG Hausys has invested $40 million that resulted in completion of approximately 9 thousand square meter sized plant. The plant is expected to manufacture approximately 6 million square meter of automotive skin materials for seat covers annually. Auto skin materials for seat covers manufactured in LG Hausys Autoskin US Plant will be supplied to automobile companies such as Hyundai, Kia, GM,and Chrysler of North America.
LG Hausys has proven its competitiveness within the automotive market by being awarded with “The Supplier of the Year” on October, 2015 from a global leading manufacturer of automotive seating system, Johnson Controls Inc. With the completion of the plant, LG Hausys will grow its momentum to further expand in the North American automotive market. Considering continuous increase of automobile production in North America, LG Hausys is also reviewing construction of an additional plant to manufacture auto skinmaterials for door panels and dashboards.
Currently, LG Hausys has a total of three Autoskin Plants globally in South Korea(Ulsan), China(Tianjin), and in United States(Georgia). It is noticeable that LG Hausys now has a plant in both China and the US, where their combined automotive production accounts for 40% of global production.
