LG Chem to Showcase Precursor-Free Cathode Materials at Interbattery 2025
2025.03.06■ LG Chem to announce it will mass-produce precursor-free cathode materials for first time in Korea
■ LG Chem to present its next-generation battery materials, including safety solutions for fire and thermal propagation, materials for EV chargers, and cathode materials for solid-state batteries
SEOUL, March 5, 2025 – LG Chem announced today that it will showcase its LG Precursor Free (LPF) cathode materials at Interbattery 2025, scheduled for March 5-7 at COEX in Seoul, South Korea.
LG Chem will be the first Korean company to begin mass production of precursor-free cathode materials, enhancing its presence in the battery materials market.
Interbattery is Korea’s largest battery industry exhibition, with participation expected from over 640 companies worldwide in a space exceeding 400,000 square meters.
LG Chem’s LPF cathode materials are produced by directly calcinating custom-designed metals without precursors, improving power performance at low temperatures and shortening development time. These advantages eliminate the need to expand precursor production capabilities, thereby reducing wastewater and carbon footprints.
Starting mass production of LPF cathode materials in the first half of this year, LG Chem plans to expand LPF technology applications across new products, providing customers with differentiated, customized solutions in performance, cost and environmental sustainability.
LG Chem will also showcase its flagship high-Ni cathode materials and a range of products and technical solutions to enhance the cost-effectiveness of affordable electric vehicles (EVs), under the theme ‘Sustainable Future, Powered by LG Chem.’
Alongside ultra-high-Ni products with over 95% nickel, high-voltage mid-Ni, high-density lithium iron phosphates (LFP), and advanced LFP products blended with nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM), LG Chem will highlight core technologies like single crystal control and advanced manufacturing using smart factories.
LG Chem will introduce next-generation materials, including safety solutions like Nexula™ (aerogel thermal barrier), flame barrier foams (FBF), and flame barrier sheets (FBS), which prevent or delay fires and limit thermal propagation in batteries. Additionally, cables and housings for EV chargers, and next-generation cathode materials for dry electrode and solid-state batteries, will be showcased.
LG Chem will also unveil a website (www.lgchem-emobility.com) to enhance the digital customer experience, offering detailed information on major exhibition items at Interbattery 2025 and insights into LG Chem’s advancements in EV-related materials.
“We will actively target the future market with next-generation innovative materials for batteries, such as LPF cathode materials and safety solutions,” said Shin Hak-Cheol, CEO of LG Chem. “We will lead the battery materials market with our continuous technological innovations and customer-focused solutions.”
