There has now been over 10,000 people who participated in everyday donations through LG Chem’s ESG practice donation app, ‘RZ?’
On the 6th, LG Chem announced that the number of subscribers to ‘RZ?’ passed the 10,000 mark in just three months since its launch. RZ is a platform designed to make practicing ESG in everyday life transform into donations for those that need help in society. Its name comes from re:act to zero (rz) that aims at reacting and acting to make social conflicts, imbalances, environmental issues, etc. into zero. The RZ app can be downloaded from the Android Play Store and iOS App Store.
The ten thousand-plus participants who subscribed to RZ put ESG into practice by completing various missions such as posting photos of eco-friendly products, solving O/X quizzes on bio materials, leaving reviews on healthy consumption, etc., gathering a total of 185 million KRW in donations.
Parts of the donations were used to provide support for three people including Su-hyeon (alias), who could not receive rehabilitation treatment due to financial difficulties. Su-hyeon, who had difficulties moving by himself because of over 10 brain surgeries, was able to continue his rehabilitation treatment thanks to RZ's donations. Su-hyeon, who has been in rehabilitation since receiving support from the RZ app participants back in February, was finally move to his immobile left foot all by himself. He expressed his appreciation saying, “Thank you for the great help that has allowed me to continue with my treatment.”
Some of the donations were used to providing heating goods for homes that needed warmth during the bitter-cold winter season. A total of 20 homes received heating goods (hot water mats, blankets) and winter clothing so that they could spend the winter without worrying about the cold. Ga-eun (alias), a young child who had to wear a padded coat even at home because her family could not afford heating costs, sent a photo while saying, “The hot water mat kept me warm.”
Additionally, LG Chem made donations to 17 causes including ▲educational costs on protecting roadside trees to protect the environment ▲offering customized meals for the health of senior citizens with chronic diseases and suffering because of COVID-19, ▲supporting sports facilities and equipment for children with developmental disabilities having hardships with outdoor activities ▲and emergency fund-raising for the forest fire in Uljin, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and it plans to continue to increase charities to support.
Meanwhile, in commemoration of its 75th anniversary, LG is hosting the ‘*Plogging’ campaign through the RZ app until the 8th. Just by posting photos of participating in plogging, donations are accrued.
*Plogging: Compound word of the Swedish word ‘plocka’ that means to pick up and ‘jogging,’ meaning to pick up litter on the streets while walking or jogging
In the future, the LG Chem RZ app plans to introduce ESG activities of LG subsidiaries, while expanding operations as an ESG practice/donation platform for the entire group such as holding donation events, etc.
LG Chem Chief Executive Officer Hak Cheol Shin stated, “RZ is a platform designed to make practicing ESG in everyday life for a sustainable society lead to precious sharing,” and added, “I hope that the positive influence of RZ will reverberate powerfully in our society and contribute to creating a better future.”
